Evaluation of the super-large methanol-to-dimethyl ether catalyst developed by Southwest Chemical Research and Design Institute / Author/Source: Date: 2017-02-23 Clicks: 41 Recently, the achievement related to the development and application of this super-large methanol-to-dimethyl ether catalyst by Southwest Chemical Research and Design Institute passed the evaluation conducted by Sichuan Zhixin Jiuding Science and Technology Evaluation Co., Ltd., and was registered as a scientific and technological achievement with the Sichuan Provincial Department of Science and Technology. Through years of dedicated research, the methanol to dimethyl ether technology R&D team at this institute has employed innovative catalyst formulation designs as well as catalyst preparation processes such as compression molding and stepwise temperature-controlled calcination. These approaches have significantly improved the catalyst’s strength, specific surface area, activity, selectivity, and service life, enabling the production of catalysts that feature low energy consumption, no pollution, and low costs – and are suitable for use in large-scale methanol to dimethyl ether plants. The catalyst products developed have been applied in Shenhua Ningmei’s million-ton-scale MTP (methanol to dimethyl ether to propylene) plant, where their performance exceeds that of the original imported catalysts. The evaluation report concludes that the project has successfully developed and brought into mass production a new generation of dimethyl ether catalysts, which have been applied in mega-scale methanol-to-dimethyl ether plants, replacing imported catalysts; the overall technology has reached international advanced levels.
