On June 7, a meeting was held to discuss the feasibility study report for 1.2 million tons per year of methanol production by Tongmei Group, as well as the project risk assessment. The review committee invited experts from organizations such as the Petroleum and Chemical Industry Planning Institute, Hualu Engineering Technology Co., Ltd., and Changzheng Chemical Engineering Co., Ltd. to examine and assess the feasibility study report for the project as well as its risks. The experts present reviewed the feasibility study report for Tongmei Group’s 1.2 million tons per year methanol production project, as well as the risk assessment related to this project. They conducted thorough discussions and evaluations of the project’s process technology solutions, the technical plans for utility systems and auxiliary facilities, environmental protection measures, and market research for the products. The experts unanimously agreed that the feasibility study report for this project is comprehensive in content, and the project risk assessment is thorough and objective; it meets the relevant requirements for the feasibility study phase of methanol industry projects, and thus approval was given. Jiang Yu said that the 1.2 million tons per year methanol project of Tongmei Group is a key coal chemical project identified in the group’s 13th Five-Year Plan; it is also a key project for Datong City aimed at extending its coal chemical industry chain and developing a circular economy. The construction of this project is in line with the policies regarding the comprehensive utilization of energy and alternative energy sources; it helps to improve the efficiency of utilizing coal resources, reduce pollution emissions, and facilitate the transformation and development of enterprises. It is reported that the 1.2 million tons per year coal-to-methanol project was built to support Tongmei’s 600,000 tons per year olefin production project ； The 600,000-ton-per-year coal-to-olefins project of Tongmei is the core coal chemical project in the Tangshan Industrial Park of Tongmei. The total planned investment for this project is 10.092 billion yuan, with a production capacity of 251,300 tons of polyethylene and 441,200 tons of polypropylene per year. The site of the project is located in Dongxiaohe Village, Xihanling Township, in the southern suburbs of Datong City. Recently, tenders for the foundation engineering design of the polypropylene unit (PP) in Tongmei’s 600,000-ton per year olefins project, the foundation engineering design of the polyethylene unit (PE), and the foundation engineering design of the plant’s utility and auxiliary facilities have been launched one after another.
