On February 1, the kick-off meeting for Xinjiang’s major scientific and technological project, \"Development and Demonstration of Key Technologies for the High-Value Comprehensive Utilization of Methanol Synthesis Off-Gases,\" was held at Xinjiang Tianzhi Chenye Chemical Co., Ltd. The meeting was held efficiently through a hybrid model of in-person and online participation. Relevant officials from the Science and Technology Bureau of Shihezi City in the Eighth Division, experts and scholars from Tianjin University and Shihezi University in related fields, technical leaders from various partner organizations, as well as members of the project development teams attended the meeting. This created an integrated research and development framework that combines industry, academia, and research institutions, marking a new phase in the implementation of this key research project aimed at driving innovation in the coal chemical industry. Liu Zhenhua, a member of the Party leadership group and deputy director of the Science and Technology Bureau of Shihezi City in the Eighth Division, and Liu Jichang, dean of the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering at Shihezi University, delivered speeches at the meeting respectively. In his speech, Liu Zhenhua said that this project focuses on the rational utilization of methane synthesis exhaust gases, and it can effectively address the issue of waste resulting from such exhaust gases. It holds practical significance for promoting technological upgrades in the chemical industry within the Bingtuan region and improving the overall technical level of the industry. He expressed the hope that all parties involved in the project will work together to complete all research, development, and demonstration tasks on schedule. Liu Jichang spoke on behalf of the university partners, stating that they would leverage their strengths in academic disciplines and research to work together with the project team on the development of relevant technologies, thereby ensuring the smooth progress of industry-university-research collaboration. At the beginning of the meeting, all participants conducted an on-site inspection of Tianzhi Chenye’s production management center, to gain a detailed understanding of the operating conditions of the company’s production facilities, the characteristics of the raw gas components, the existing process parameters, as well as the infrastructure available for research and development. Zhu Jianqiang, the project leader, systematically outlined the overall framework of the project, its key focus areas and implementation measures, by covering five core aspects: the strategic significance of the project background, the main objectives to be achieved, the annual implementation plan, the technical approach to be adopted, and the pathways for translating achievements into practical applications. This provided a clear vision of the complete implementation strategy, which includes achieving technological breakthroughs, empowering the industry, and serving as a model for others. Each collaborating party took turns to report on the tasks assigned to them, the implementation plan, key deadlines, and expected goals. Zhang Ping, a senior engineer at Tianye Group’s Innovation Engineering Research Institute, gave a presentation on the relevant institutional norms regarding fund management, performance evaluation, and outcome management during the project implementation process, clarifying the management requirements and work standards for project execution. Subsequently, the participants engaged in free exchanges and asked questions regarding the details of project implementation, technical challenges, and division of tasks, in order to further clarify the implementation approach and standardize work procedures. Feng Jun, assistant to the director of Tianye Group’s Innovation Engineering Research Institute, delivered a concluding speech to motivate everyone, putting forward specific requirements for subsequent research and development, demonstration projects, and collaborative efforts. Zhang Yonglong, deputy chief engineer of Tianye Group, as well as deputy secretary of the Party committee and chairman of Tianzhi Chenye, delivered a solemn statement on behalf of the project’s implementing unit. Zhang Yonglong said that Tianzhi Chenye will make this project a priority, providing support in terms of organization and coordination, technical research and development, fund utilization, and the transformation of research results. It will also strengthen cooperation with various universities and partner organizations in areas such as industry-university-research collaboration, and advance technical research and the development of demonstration facilities as planned, to ensure the successful implementation of the project and the achievement of its intended goals. Drawing on the compositional characteristics of the calcium carbide furnace gas from Tianye Group, this project develops a comprehensive utilization technology for carbon, hydrogen, and nitrogen elements, as well as a multi-product production route involving methanol, ammonia, and LNG, thereby achieving hierarchical utilization of process energy and staged treatment of exhaust gases. The project focuses on research in areas such as the high-value conversion of exhaust gases, the removal of low-concentration carbon oxides, gas mixture separation, and the utilization of thermal energy throughout the process. It develops technologies for low-temperature methanization and efficient adsorption materials for purification, and establishes a combined production system for ammonia synthesis from nitrogen and hydrogen, as well as LNG production from methane-rich gases. An integrated process of \"purification–separation–synthesis\" is created, with plans to build a demonstration plant capable of handling 10,000 tons per year, thereby enabling the resource utilization of exhaust gases and promoting the green and low-carbon development of the coal chemical industry. The implementation of this project is in line with the enterprise’s development plans, energy-saving and environmental protection requirements, as well as the **\"Dual Carbon\" strategy. It can provide technical guidance for the low-carbon development of coal chemical industries in the Bingtuan region, and help similar enterprises gain practical experience in the comprehensive utilization of exhaust gases. This kick-off meeting clarified the project implementation roadmap, the responsibilities of various parties, and the management standards; it also brought together the efforts of industry, academia, and research institutions, laying a foundation for subsequent technical development, facility construction, and demonstration operations of the project. The project focuses on the high-value utilization of methane synthesis exhaust gases; driven by independent innovation in key core technologies, it provides robust technical support and practical solutions for the green and low-carbon transformation of the chemical industry. It injects strong innovative momentum into the improvement of regional economic efficiency and sustainable development, thereby putting the **green development strategy** into practice through concrete actions.
