Discussion on the heating time for formaldehyde catalysts: Before bringing a new catalyst into operation, it is necessary to heat the heat transfer oil from room temperature to 250–260°C. The issues to be discussed are: 1. Is nitrogen circulation necessary? 2. Is a constant temperature required? 3. How long is the heating time?
Both Clariant catalysts and Sinopec catalysts use heat transfer oil for direct heating when the temperature is increased, with no gas circulation. For methanol catalysts, heating is always carried out through nitrogen circulation.
With a newly installed catalyst, it is only necessary to purge the system before starting the machine; there is no need for nitrogen circulation. The temperature is raised directly using heat transfer oil. It is also important to remove any moisture from the system, as iron-wood catalysts can become ineffective when exposed to water. There are no strict requirements regarding the rate of temperature increase, so even in large systems, the temperature does not rise very quickly.
