After seven years, the Luoyang coal-to-ethylene glycol project is now in operation! Author/Source: Date: 2017-12-05 Clicks: 7 At 14:18 on December 2, the 200,000-ton per year ethylene glycol production project of Luoyang Yonglong Energy Chemical Co., Ltd., part of Henan Energy and Chemical Group, successfully produced qualified ethylene glycol products. This marked the completion of the 7-year construction process for this project, with all processes now operational and the construction and testing phases finished. The project with an annual production capacity of 200,000 tons of ethylene glycol is located in Chengguan Town, Mengjin County. It is a key project for adjusting the industrial structure of the chemical sector under Henan Energy and Chemical Group Company. The project uses coal from Luoyang and its surrounding areas as raw materials, and employs the new WHG pressurized coal gasification technology developed by China Fifth Ring Engineering Co., Ltd., as well as a world-first two-step indirect synthesis process involving carbonylation and hydrogenation to produce ethylene glycol. The technology used in this project is mature, the design is rational, the equipment is advanced, and the safety facilities meet the requirements of the \"three simultaneities\" principle; it has already passed the trial production evaluation by provincial and municipal safety experts. The main products are methanol and ethylene glycol, and the market prospects are favorable. In July 2017, the project accelerated its pace of construction and testing. Since 2:10 am on October 31, when the thermal power plant was successfully started up, Song Xiansheng, Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of the Luoyang Plant, led all cadres and employees to work around the clock, overcoming difficulties, staying at their posts, and being on duty at the front line. The on-site process operators monitored the systems carefully and operated them with precision. After 32 days and nights of continuous effort, the facility was finally fully operational at 1:16 pm on December 2, and Level 1 ethylene glycol product was successfully produced at 2:18 pm on the same day. The 200,000-ton per year ethylene glycol production project of Luoyang Yonglong Energy Chemical Co., Ltd., which is part of Henan Energy and Chemical Group, is located in Chengguan Town, Mengjin County. It uses coal from the area around Luoyang as raw material for production, and employs the new WHG pressurized coal gasification technology developed by China Fifth Ring Engineering Corporation, as well as a world-first two-step indirect synthesis process involving carbonylation and hydrogenation to produce ethylene glycol. The project was originally scheduled for test runs at the end of 2014. Relying on the coal resources of Henan Coal and Chemical Group, Yongjin Chemical has established five ethylene glycol production facilities in Henan Province, each with an annual production capacity of 200,000 tons. These facilities are located in Yongcheng, Anyang, Puyang, Xinxiang, and Luoyang. All five ethylene glycol projects are considered key construction projects in Henan Province. All five projects utilize the coal-to-ethylene glycol synthesis technology owned jointly by Henan Coal and Chemical Industry Group and Tongliao Jinmei Chemical Co., Ltd., and which features independent intellectual property rights.
It is truly commendable that Yongjin Chemical has seen success with all five of its coal-to-ethylene glycol projects in recent years. Although it collaborated with Tongliao, this represents a fairly successful operation on a domestic level. Congratulations!
