On December 15, Yanchang Zhongke (Dalian) Energy Technology Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as “Yanke Energy”), which was established with funding from the Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Shaanxi Yanchang Petroleum (Group) Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as “Yanchang Petroleum”), signed a technical licensing agreement for a 500,000-ton/year syngas-to-ethanol (DMTE) plant with Shaanxi Xinghua Group Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as “Xinghua Group”) in the People’s Hall of Shaanxi Province. This move marks the official entry of syngas-to-ethanol technology in China into the era of large-scale industrial application. In the presence of the guests attending the event, Chen Tuanzhu, Chairman of Xinghua Group, and Zheng Shuanchen, Chairman of Yankē Energy, jointly signed a cooperation agreement regarding the 500,000 tons per year synthetic gas-to-ethanol process package ; Liu Zhongmin, director of the Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics, and Yang Yue, secretary of the Party committee and chairman of Yanchang Petroleum, jointly signed a cooperation agreement for the development of new technologies for the efficient use of coal, and unveiled the plaque for the \"Yanchang Petroleum-Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics Institute for Clean Energy (Chemical Engineering)\". During the event, Liang Gui, Secretary of the Shaanxi Provincial Party Committee and Executive Vice Governor, expressed his gratitude to the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics for their contributions to scientific and technological innovation in Shaanxi Province. He hoped that the two sides would strengthen cooperation to promote economic development, and encouraged Yanchang Petroleum to increase investment in science and technology in order to achieve development driven by innovation. Chen Wenkai, deputy director of the Bureau for Science and Technology for Development at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, said that the academy will continue to support and encourage cooperation between relevant research institutes and enterprises in Shaanxi Province, so as to make greater contributions to the economic and social development of that province. Yang Yue said that the technical research and development cooperation between Yanchang Petroleum and Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics is becoming increasingly close, with many technical achievements having been put into industrial use; in the future, more and better innovative results are expected to be achieved. Liu Zhongmin discussed the strategic significance and importance of coal-based ethanol technology for energy security, environmental protection, food security, etc. He said that by combining Shaanxi Province’s resource advantages, the strengths of the Yanchang petroleum industry, and the technical expertise of the Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics, it will spur the development of industries such as coal chemical engineering and fine chemical manufacturing in Shaanxi Province. Furthermore, the establishment of the Clean Energy Research Institute will open a new chapter in cooperation between the two parties, aiming for mutual benefit and common development. Bao Xinhe, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, affirmed the importance of coal-based ethanol technology in the energy sector, and expressed his gratitude to Shaanxi Province and Yanchang Petroleum for their ongoing support to the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics. The DMTE (methanol/syngas carbonylation to anhydrous ethanol) technology is a patented technology jointly developed by Yanchang Petroleum and Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics, featuring complete independent intellectual property rights. It represents another breakthrough achievement in the field of coal chemical engineering by the team led by Liu Zhongmin, following the DMTO (methanol to olefins) technology. The 100,000-ton/year industrial demonstration plant for producing ethanol from syngas, built using this technology, successfully completed the entire production process on January 11 this year. Since its operation began, all technical parameters have met or exceeded the design specifications; the lifespan of the carbonylation catalyst has surpassed 7,500 hours, which has attracted widespread attention in the coal chemical industry both domestically and internationally. At the beginning of November this year, the E10 ethanol gasoline formulated using this device passed the certification by the **Petroleum Fuel Supervision and Inspection Center (Henan), meeting the **GB18351-2015 standards. At the same time, the successful operation of the industrial demonstration plant provided valuable design criteria and construction experience for the implementation of large-scale DMTE plants. The successful industrialization of this technology has diversified the sources of chemical raw materials in our country and ensured the strategic security of its energy supply.
