The civil construction work for Shanxi Xiangkuang Hongtong Coal Chemicals Co., Ltd.’s 200,000 tons per year ethylene glycol production project from syngas is now almost complete, and progress has been made in the installation of pipelines and equipment. The installation of the large-scale tower equipment in the purification zone and synthesis zone was completed successfully, fulfilling the goals set for 2017 and laying a solid foundation for the joint commissioning in July 2018. The project is located in the Wangqiao Industrial Park, Xiangyuan County, Changzhi City, Shanxi Province. With a total investment of around 2 billion yuan, it utilizes coal pulverization pressurized gasification technology, and Taiyuan Heavy Industry Co., Ltd. is responsible for the overall construction of the project. In May 2011, Shanxi Xiangkuang Hongtong Coal Chemical Co., Ltd. signed a project design contract with Donghua Engineering Technology Co., Ltd. for a coal-to-ethylene glycol project with a design capacity of 300,000 tons per year. In November 2012, Xiangkuang replaced the provider and designer of the process package, and signed a contract with Shanghai Pujing Chemical Technology Co., Ltd. for the transfer of the process package for producing ethylene glycol from syngas at a capacity of 200,000 tons per year; Caiding Engineering was responsible for the project design. Xiangkuang Hongtong Coal Chemical Industry is a joint venture established by Xiangkuang Group, **Hongtong Company, and 99 Industrial Co., Ltd., and it has been designated as a key project in Shanxi. The project covers an area of 960 mu; work resumed in April 2017, and the planned progress for that year has been completed.
Shanghai Pujing’s ethylene glycol technology works fine; there are no issues with starting up the system. However, given the current progress, it will likely be difficult to start operations in July. The construction of pipelines and other components in the purification area should take more than half a year.
