Annual output value: 500 million! The first dimethyl carbonate project in the southwestern region is being established in Wansheng. Author/Source: Date: 2018-04-04. Clicks: 58. Recently, another large-scale and high-potential project has been set up in the Wansheng Coal, Electricity, and Chemicals Industrial Park. It is a green chemical industry project with great development prospects – the first phase of Wansheng Coal and Chemicals Company’s project, which involves 100,000 tons per year of polycarbonate production and 60,000 tons per year of dimethyl carbonate production (hereinafter referred to as the “dimethyl carbonate project”), is about to begin construction. This project utilizes methanol and oxygen produced by Wansheng Coal Chemical Company to produce dimethyl carbonate (DMC), a chemical raw material that is low in toxicity, has excellent environmental properties, and has a wide range of applications. Once the project is completed and put into operation, it is expected to generate an annual output value of 500 million yuan and tax revenues of 25 million yuan. This project will fill the market gap for dimethyl carbonate production in the southwest region, further strengthening the coal chemical industry cluster in our area. What is “dimethyl carbonate”? In which fields will it be applied? What’s the point? Will it pollute Wansheng’s existing environment? In 1992, dimethyl carbonate was classified as a non-toxic substance in Europe, and today it is regarded by the world as a \"new cornerstone\" of organic synthesis. Dimethyl carbonate is a chemically useful material with low toxicity and excellent environmental properties; it is an eco-friendly chemical that meets the requirements of modern \"clean processes\". Dimethyl carbonate can be used as an “environment-friendly agent” incorporated into coatings. Compared to traditional coating solvents, dimethyl carbonate features low solvency and low toxicity. Dimethyl carbonate can also be used as an electrolyte solvent for lithium-ion batteries. In the future, it will also replace highly toxic substances such as phosgene, dimethyl sulfate, and methyl chloroform in many fields, to produce a range of important chemicals including polycarbonates, isocyanates, pharmaceuticals, pesticides, and various specialty chemicals. Currently, the manufacturers of dimethyl carbonate are mainly located in Western Europe, the United States, and Japan. There are only over 20 manufacturers of dimethyl carbonate in our country, most of which operate on a small scale with low utilization rates. The company established a leadership team for the 60,000 tons per year dimethyl carbonate project, carried out technical cooperation with Tianjin University, and invested 30 million yuan to improve and optimize the design parameters of the process package. It has been decided to use existing resources, namely the catalysts developed independently by a domestic research institute, to produce dimethyl carbonate via the liquid-phase oxidative carbonylation method. After nearly two years, the dimethyl carbonate project was finally implemented. Will the dimethyl carbonate project in Wansheng cast a shadow over this area’s lush green landscapes? At the initial stage of design, the company analyzed the main sources of pollution and pollutants. During the project construction, they will seal off those parts of the entire process system where leaks or pressure releases are most likely to occur, and burn the small amount of gas generated in the project’s purification section. In terms of wastewater treatment, domestic wastewater is sent to a wastewater reuse system for treatment before being reused; any waste liquid generated is discharged to a sewage treatment plant for processing. Once it meets the first-level discharge standards, it is sent back to the reuse system for further treatment, and after satisfying the requirements specified in the \"Design Code for Wastewater Reuse Projects\" (GB/T50335-2002), it can be reused in circulating water systems. Regarding waste residues, the project has also developed targeted treatment plans. The waste catalysts generated during the production process will be collected uniformly by the catalyst manufacturer ; Domestic waste is collected by the sanitation department and then sent to waste recycling centers for processing ; After prolonged production, the waste materials remaining at the bottom of the tanks are disposed of by specialized companies qualified to handle hazardous solid waste. In terms of noise, the project will also strive to use equipment with low noise levels and minimal vibration. For equipment that generates high levels of noise and vibration, measures such as sound absorption, sound insulation, vibration damping, and anti-vibration techniques will be employed to ensure that the noise levels in the working environment meet regulatory requirements. In terms of the overall layout, it will take into account the overall arrangement of the factory site, as well as factors such as the terrain, the direction from which sound originates, the shielding effect of buildings, and the noise-absorbing properties of green plants, in order to reduce the impact of noise at various work locations. In terms of the environment, the company will select different types of greenery for various functional areas. The landscaping in front of the factory area and office area is aimed at beautification; trees and shrubs with certain ornamental value are selected, with an effort to achieve a greening rate of 30%. The tree species commonly planted in the factory area are camphor trees and osmanthus trees, which have the capabilities to trap dust through their leaves, conserve water sources, prevent soil erosion and sandstorms, beautify the environment, and resist sea breezes. They can also absorb toxic gases such as chlorine, sulfur dioxide, and hydrogen fluoride.
