Recently, there have been reports stating that wet flue gas desulfurization using complexed iron catalysts results in very little by-product salt; especially when this technology is used for desulfurization in the coking industry, no salt is generated at all. I’m not sure if this information is true. Does anyone among you who is familiar with this technology have anything to share on the topic?
By process control, the formation of by-products can be reduced, but it cannot be eliminated completely.

The formation of by-products resulting from wet-process iron chelation desulfurization is mainly due to the desulfurization agents and the operating conditions; under normal circumstances, no double salts are formed. Previously, the traditional coking industry would generally use the PDS process for desulfurization, but PDS has problems such as high levels of by-products and severe corrosion. The newly installed sulfur recovery units currently prefer to use the wet iron complexation process for removing hydrogen sulfide. The operating consumption is similar to that of PDS; the main advantages are the resolution of the issue of high by-product salts, as well as the fact that this process generates no waste materials. The hydrogen sulfide removal efficiency is high, reaching 99.99%, with the hydrogen sulfide content in the purified gas dropping to as low as 5 ppm.
The wet-method complexation iron redox technology for the removal of hydrogen sulfide is primarily used in applications such as sulfur-containing natural gas, coal chemical plant coke oven gases, refinery exhaust gases, and adhesive manufacturing exhaust gases. I previously consulted a company in Yantai that specializes in hydrogen sulfide removal; they perform this task exceptionally well, achieving a hydrogen sulfide removal rate of over 99.99%. This company has installed more than 20 sulfur recovery units in China that use its desulfurization agents.
