Shanxi Issues Local Standards for Using Methanol to Replace Natural Gas to Ensure Heating Supply Author/Source: Date: 2018-10-17 Clicks: 5. On October 10, the Shanxi Provincial Quality and Technical Supervision Bureau issued two local standards: the \"General Technical Requirements for Methanol Fuel Used in Boilers\" and the \"Technical Specifications for Storage and Supply Facilities for Methanol Fuel Used in Boilers\", in order to support the implementation of the use of methanol as a substitute for natural gas to ensure heating supply. In accordance with the requirements of the Office of the Emergency Supply Assurance Leadership Group for Natural Gas (shale gas) during peak winter periods in Shanxi Province, relevant provincial technical standards must be established as soon as possible for the use of methanol as a substitute for natural gas in heating applications. In light of the actual circumstances of its work, the Shanxi Provincial Economic and Information Commission decided that the Provincial New Energy Vehicle Promotion Center would be responsible for formulating the relevant standards. It identified the members of the standardization expert group and submitted the application materials for two local standards, namely \"General Technical Requirements for Methanol Fuel Used in Boilers\" and \"Technical Specifications for Storage and Supply Facilities for Methanol Fuel Used in Boilers\", to the Provincial Quality Supervision Bureau. The standard was drafted by vehicle methanol fuel formulating enterprises such as Shanxi Jia New Energy Chemical Industry Co., Ltd., Shanxi Huadun Industry Co., Ltd., Shanxi Fengxi New Energy Development Co., Ltd., Shanxi Huadun Kaiyuan New Energy Co., Ltd., and Shanxi Xinyuan Coal Chemical Fuel Co., Ltd. Referencing the 4 local standards related to methanol fuel for vehicles that have been issued in Shanxi Province (including \"Methanol as a Fuel for Vehicles\", \"Safety Specifications for the Use of Methanol Fuel in Vehicles\", \"Specifications for the Preparation of Methanol Fuel\", and \"Safety Specifications for the Cleaning of Storage Tanks for Methanol Fuel in Vehicles\"), and taking into account the characteristics of methanol fuel for boilers in terms of production and use, two draft local standards were prepared, and a preliminary review was conducted on October 6th. On October 8, the Shanxi Provincial Economic and Information Commission organized a technical review meeting with a standards expert group to conduct a technical evaluation of the draft standard. After passing the technical review, the two standards were further examined by the Shanxi Provincial Quality and Technical Supervision Bureau and were finally issued on October 10. The issuance and implementation of these two local standards can effectively ensure the promotion of methanol fuel as an alternative to natural gas for heating in certain areas, thereby alleviating the supply pressures and social risks that arise during the heating season due to shortages of natural gas.
