According to Sinochem New Network, on March 30, the construction of a 100,000-ton/year biomass-based green methanol production project owned by Nengke Group’s Ecology Company in Lanzhou New Area, Gansu Province, began. This is the first large-scale project in Gansu Province for producing green methanol from biomass, and it will serve as an important model for exploring pathways for a low-carbon transformation in China’s energy and chemical industries. The total investment in this project is 1.427 billion yuan, with a land area of approximately 350 mu; it will be constructed in two phases. The project is located in the chemical industry park of Lanzhou New Area. Taking advantage of the park’s well-developed supporting facilities and transportation infrastructure, it is planned to establish a production capacity of 50,000 tons per year for green methanol; once Phase 2 is completed, the total production capacity will reach 100,000 tons per year. The project utilizes advanced international biomass thermochemical conversion technologies; it uses renewable biomasses such as crop straws and forestry waste as raw materials to produce green methanol through efficient catalytic conversion techniques. This process not only enables the clean utilization of biomass resources across the entire value chain, but also reduces carbon emissions at the source. Through this project, Nengke Group will establish a industrial chain linking \"agricultural and forestry waste – clean energy – green fuels,\" thereby promoting the integrated development of industries such as agriculture, new energy, and green chemicals. It is reported that the project is scheduled to be completed and put into operation by the end of 2027.
