Major overhaul at Yunnan Qumei Coking Plant: Methanol unit operated continuously for 236 days

According to Yunnan Qumei Coking, the company shut down its operations as planned on April 21, 2026, and on April 22, all centers entered a phase of intensive maintenance work. As of April 22, 2026, the company’s methanol plant has operated continuously, safely and stably for 236 days, breaking the previous record of 122 days for such a long period of operation. On April 23, the day after the record was set, the methanol plant commenced its scheduled six-day special maintenance campaign. Qu Meier Coking has production facilities with a capacity of 3 million tons per year for coking, 200,000 tons per year for tar processing, 300,000 tons per year for methanol production, 100,000 tons per year for carbon black production, 120,000 tons per year for crude benzene refining, and 50,000 tons per year for maleic anhydride production. The main products include more than 20 items such as coke, methanol, raw coal, ammonium sulfate, industrial naphthalene, asphalt, washing oil, phenol, pure benzene, toluene, xylene, carbon black, maleic anhydride, and hydrogen peroxide. The Qumei coking methanol plants are used to produce methanol from coke oven gas; there are two such plants, with a combined production capacity of 300,000 tons per year.
