From May 23 to May 26, 2017, the technical evaluation meeting for the environmental impact assessment report of Inner Mongolia Huaxing New Energy Co., Ltd.’s 4 billion Nm3/year coal-to-natural gas project was successfully held in Shangmaiao. **Nearly 100 people attended the meeting, including experts from the Evaluation Center of the Ministry of Environmental Protection, the Environmental Protection Department of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, the Environmental Protection Department of Ningxia Autonomous Region, the Environmental Protection Bureau of Ordos City, the Development and Reform Commission of Ordos City, the local people’s government of Ejin Horo Banner and related departments, leaders and design units from the Shanghaimiao Economic Development Zone and related departments, as well as environmental assessment agencies. The coal-to-natural gas project of Inner Mongolia Huaxing New Energy Co., Ltd., with an output of 4 billion cubic meters per year, has a total investment of 2,443,516.33 million yuan, and its production capacity is 4 billion cubic meters of coal-to-natural gas per year. Synthetic natural gas is produced using technologies such as fixed-bed pressurized gasification, sulfur-resistant shift reaction, low-temperature methanol washing for purification, and nickel-based catalysts for methane synthesis. A thermal power plant is built as part of the facility, giving the entire plant a total power generation capacity of 295 MW. It is also accompanied by storage and transportation engineering, utility engineering, auxiliary engineering, and environmental protection engineering, among others. At the meeting, the evaluation expert group listened to the presentation by the environmental impact assessment preparation unit, conducted a thorough analysis of the report, and unanimously agreed that this project meets the entry requirements and is in line with the overall environmental protection plan for the Shanghaimiao Energy and Chemical Industry Base. At the same time, with a highly responsible attitude, sound suggestions were put forward for the report to make it more rational and practical, thereby laying a solid theoretical foundation and practical basis for the early commencement of the project. Finally, the project owner and the environmental impact assessment preparation unit stated that they would strictly follow the experts’ recommendations to revise and improve the report. The Ordos Environmental Protection Bureau, the Shanghaimiao Economic Development Zone, and various relevant departments have all stated that they will continue to provide increased support and work together closely to obtain the environmental assessment approval documents as soon as possible, thereby accelerating the progress of project construction. On May 19, 2017, the **Ministry of Environmental Protection officially accepted the environmental impact assessment documents for Inner Mongolia Huaxing New Energy Co., Ltd.’s coal-to-natural gas project with a capacity of 4 billion Nm3 per year. On January 20, 2014, the reply from the General Office of the National Development and Reform Commission titled \"Reply on the Preliminary Work for the Coal-to-Natural Gas Pilot Project of Inner Mongolia Huaxing New Energy Co., Ltd.\" (Document No. Fa Gai Ban Neng Yuan 188) was received, approving the initiation of the preliminary work for this project. To date, approval documents for 34 preliminary procedures, including the \"Water Resources Assessment Report\" and the \"Safety Pre-assessment\", have been obtained.
