Commencement of Tianchen Company’s Yankuang Lunan Caprolactam Auxiliary EP Project / Source: Coal Chemical Industry 114 Forum Date: February 24, 2020 Clicks: 4 From February 14th to 15th, the project team responsible for Tianchen Company’s Yankuang Lunan Caprolactam Auxiliary EP Project, adhering to the principle of \"strict implementation of isolation measures during the epidemic while ensuring steady progress in project work,\" held a project kickoff meeting with the client via video conference. At the meeting, Guo Guihui, deputy general manager of Tianchen Company, expressed his gratitude for the trust and support that Lunan Chemical has always shown to Tianchen Company. He also made an overall plan for how to advance the project in the near future, taking into account the current situation regarding the pandemic and Tianchen Company’s role as a central-state-owned enterprise. Li Zhiyuan, deputy general manager of Lunan Chemical, highly praised Tianchen Company’s positive attitude and professional capabilities, and expressed his appreciation and gratitude for the company’s efforts to overcome various difficulties and advance projects steadily despite the pandemic. Subsequently, Tianchen Company provided a detailed overview of the project as well as its planning strategy, and held discussions with the client in 5 groups to address specific issues such as the layout plan that could affect the project’s progress, the core design concepts, and the impact of the pandemic on the project. Following in-depth discussions during the two days of the meeting, both parties reached a consensus on the issues encountered, achieving the desired outcomes of the meeting and laying a solid foundation for the subsequent implementation of the project. The Yankuang Lunan Chemicals project, with an annual production capacity of 300,000 tons of caprolactam, is currently the largest single-capacity production facility for caprolactam under construction in China. Tianchen is responsible for the EPC general contracting of the main plant and auxiliary facilities for this project. The site is located on the vacant land to the north of the butanol production unit within the premises of Yankuang Lunan Chemicals Co., Ltd. in Mushi Town, Tengzhou City, Shandong Province. This project will involve the construction of a facility capable of producing 270,000 tons per year of ** and 300,000 tons per year of caprolactam; simultaneously, it will generate 60,000 tons of cyclohexane and 400,000 tons of sulfuric acid. The facility will also include various auxiliary systems such as raw material and finished product storage areas, air compression and cooling stations, and substation rooms. The Yankuang Lunan Chemical project, which has an annual production capacity of 300,000 tons of caprolactam, involves an total investment of around 5.1 billion yuan. It utilizes advanced oxime synthesis technology for the production of caprolactam. The construction includes a facility with an annual capacity of 300,000 tons of caprolactam, a facility producing 450,000 tons of ammonium sulfate per year, a facility capable of producing 270,000 tons of ** per year, a facility for producing 400,000 tons of sulfuric acid per year, a facility for producing 400,000 tons of hydrogen peroxide per year, a facility for producing 200,000 tons of polymer chips per year, as well as a coal distribution center and various supporting utility facilities. This will become the largest caprolactam production facility in China. It is expected to be completed and put into operation by June 2021. Caprolactam is an important organic chemical raw material that can be used to produce textiles, industrial fibers, fibers for carpets, and food packaging. It is widely applied in industries such as automobiles, electronics, packaging, machinery, sports and leisure, as well as daily necessities. Since the raw materials for the production of caprolactam are liquid ammonia, hydrogen, and other substances derived from traditional coal chemical industries, this project represents an important initiative for the transformation and upgrading of the traditional chemical industry as well as for the shift from old to new forms of energy. The products produced by this project will meet the high quality requirements of the premium caprolactam market, which relies on high-speed spinning processes; it will thus enable traditional coal chemical companies to transition into the fields of high-end chemicals and new materials. In June 2019, the project was included in the second batch of priority projects in Shandong Province’s major project database for the transformation of old and new growth drivers.
