Progress on the Construction of Shanxi Woneng Chemical’s EG+LNG Co-production Project Author/Source: Huahua Network – Coal Chemicals Date: 2020-06-14 Clicks: 16 At 9 a.m. on June 10, the installation, commissioning, and trial operation of the largest coke oven gas centrifugal compressor for Shanxi Woneng Chemical’s 300,000-ton/year EG+LNG co-production project, carried out by Sinochem 13th Construction Company, were completed. To date, all online tests of the large compression units involved in this project’s construction work have been completed (4 screw compressors, 1 centrifugal compressor, and 1 reciprocating compressor). The 300,000 tons per year ethylene glycol production with LNG co-production project of Shanxi Wonen Chemical is located in the Taizitan Industrial Park in Linfen City, Shanxi Province. It is the first fine chemical project in China to produce ethylene glycol using various types of waste gases such as coke oven gas and steelmaking converter gas; it represents projects aimed at transformation and green development. Once the project is completed and put into operation, it will not only enable the recovery of waste gases, the conversion of waste into valuable resources, and the recycling of resources, but it will also serve as a model for enterprises to pursue transformation and upgrading as well as the development of an ecological civilization. It will set a precedent for the comprehensive utilization of converter gas and coke oven gas in domestic steelmaking and coking enterprises. The coke oven gas purification unit, which is under the responsibility of Sinochem 13th Construction Company for construction in this project, represents the first step in the process transformation and is also a key unit that affects subsequent process steps; the contract value for this unit is 100 million yuan. The centrifugal compression unit for coke oven gas used in this test run was designed and manufactured by Shenyang Blower Group Co., Ltd. Its rated power is 14,000 kilowatts; it consists of two cylinders with three stages and 13 stages in total. The motor is equipped with a separate steel base, and the entire unit is supplied with oil by an lubrication station. This unit is capable of raising the pressure of the gas after impurities have been removed from the coke oven gas to 4.0 megapascals. The process involves numerous steps, and there is a large amount of work required for installing the associated equipment and pipelines. Moreover, precise stress-free alignment of the high-pressure and low-pressure cylinders as well as the pipelines on-site demands very strict conditions. Through the unremitting efforts of all employees in the project department, the commissioning of the project’s large-scale compression units was completed successfully. The 300,000 tons per year ethylene glycol production with co-production of LNG project operated by Shanxi Woneng Chemical Technology Co., Ltd. is located in the Quwo Ecological Industrial Park in Quwo County, Linfen City, Shanxi Province. The total investment in this project amounts to 398,731,300 yuan, with a production capacity of 300,000 tons per year of ethylene glycol and 156 million cubic meters per year of LNG. This project is currently the largest in China for producing ethylene glycol from various types of waste gases such as coke oven gas and converter gas. The construction scope includes a gas purification unit, an H2/CO cryogenic separation unit, a DMO reaction unit, ethylene glycol synthesis and distillation systems, storage and transportation facilities, utility systems, and auxiliary supporting facilities. Shanxi Woneng Chemical Technology Co., Ltd. is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Shanxi Liheng Iron and Steel Group Co., Ltd. The comprehensive waste gas utilization project of Shanxi Woneng Chemical Co., Ltd., which aims to produce 300,000 tons per year of ethylene glycol along with LNG, uses coke oven gas and converter gas generated as by-products by Shanxi Liheng Iron and Steel Group Co., Ltd. as raw materials. The CTEG technology developed by High Chemistry and Donghua Technology is employed to produce 300,000 tons per year of ethylene glycol, while simultaneously generating 156 million cubic meters per year of LNG. Donghua Technology is responsible for the engineering design of this project.
