Jufeng New Energy in Juye County: a project for producing hydrogen from natural gas (methanol) at a rate of 18,000 m3/h, as well as producing 150,000 tons per year of hydrogen peroxide (50%) and 100,000 tons per year of propylene oxide. On the afternoon of December 7th, a delegation dedicated to observing the economic and social development of the region visited Juye County, with their final stop being the Jufeng New Energy facility mentioned above. The project was invested and constructed by Jufeng New Energy Co., Ltd., with a total investment of 2.66 billion yuan. Upon completion and reaching full capacity, it will produce 400,000 cubic meters of hydrogen per day, as well as 150,000 tons of hydrogen peroxide and 100,000 tons of propylene oxide annually. This will generate an annual output value of 4 billion yuan and profits and taxes of 500 million yuan, while creating more than 300 jobs. This project has three major advantages: first, it features advanced production technology. Starting from a high technical level, it adopts the direct oxidation method for the production of propylene oxide, being the first in Shandong Province to do so. It has broken foreign technological monopolies in over 30 areas and made improvements in 100 more; compared to traditional processes, it reduces production costs by 30% and cuts wastewater generation by 95%. The continuous pure-oxygen oxidation of biomass for hydrogen production is the first of its kind in the country. It makes use of various types of straw and distillers’ grains, resulting in a high conversion efficiency for syngas production with minimal waste. Each year, it can replace 800,000 tons of standard coal, while requiring 1.6 million tons of straw. This approach helps to solve the problem of straw disposal in Juye and three surrounding counties, thereby increasing farmers’ incomes, reducing pollution from burning straw, and contributing to rural revitalization. Second, the industrial chain is complete. Most of the products are sold through partitioned sales, with biomass-based hydrogen production being the main focus; the facility is capable of producing 1.6 million cubic meters of hydrogen per day, and it will become the largest hydrogen energy supply base in the country, providing ample hydrogen for downstream applications such as hydrogen peroxide and propylene oxide production. Third, it has strong driving capacity. Once Phase 3 of the project is brought online, the hydrogen peroxide production capacity will reach 1.6 million tons, ranking first in China in terms of production capacity ; It supplies hydrogen to Baoshun Chemicals, carbon dioxide and propylene oxide to Zhuohang New Materials, and nitrogen to companies such as Daze Chemicals and Huayang Pharmaceutical – all via pipeline transportation to reduce logistics costs. This approach helps to develop a high-end chemical industry park worth hundreds of billions of yuan. Additionally, it captures and recycles carbon dioxide, contributing to the efforts aimed at achieving carbon neutrality.
