In the UK, Dawsongroup Energy Solutions, a subsidiary of Dawsongroup, recently added a hydrogen-powered generator to its vast fleet of temporary power equipment. This is the world’s first hydrogen-powered generator set manufactured by the British company J C Bamford Excavators Ltd (JCB). Dawsongroup Energy Solutions provides generators and advanced battery energy storage systems to industries such as construction, film production, data centers, and events, with a focus on performance, efficiency, and sustainability. Paul Ridley, Managing Director of Dawsongroup Energy Solutions, said that reliability and efficiency are crucial in the temporary power industry. The support has always been first-rate, perfectly suited to the fast-paced growth of its business. The all-new G60RS H generator set – powered by JCB’s pioneering hydrogen combustion engine – offers the same power, performance, and efficiency as its diesel counterpart, but produces no carbon emissions during operation. The unit has been added to the fleet of 155 JCB Stage III and Stage V generators (with capacities ranging from 20 kVA to 500 kVA) within Dawsongroup Energy Solutions. Of this, over 4 million pounds (approximately 4.6 million euros) was invested in Stage V models alone in the past 12 months. The first hydrogen generator in the company’s fleet will be installed as a backup power source for a data center client. As artificial intelligence and digital services drive demand growth, data centers require reliable power while also facing increasingly stringent environmental scrutiny. Hydrogen energy offers a lower-carbon alternative without compromising performance, added Paul Ridley. At the core of the G60RS H is JCB’s breakthrough hydrogen combustion engine. The engine was designed and manufactured in the UK as part of a £100 million (approximately €115.3 million) project aimed at providing a practical zero-carbon alternative to diesel. This hydrogen generator works in conjunction with JCB’s three-phase Powerpack system to create an on-site \"microgrid\" that utilizes battery power and hydrogen combustion technology. The system is specifically designed to meet the needs of actual construction sites. With renewable energy powering the Powerpack, the hydrogen generator essentially acts as a battery charger, operating only for short periods when the batteries need to be recharged or during peak load times. This reduces fuel consumption and enables long periods of silent or low-noise operation.
