According to Sinochem New Network, at the national on-site promotion meeting for \"Artificial Intelligence+Energy\" held on May 26, the **\"China’s Artificial Intelligence+Energy Development Report 2026\", prepared by the Energy Administration, was officially released. This is the first annual report in China’s energy sector to focus on the integrated development of artificial intelligence and energy. The report reviews the progress in the integration of artificial intelligence and energy both domestically and internationally, conducts an in-depth analysis of the development landscape of \"Artificial Intelligence+Energy\" in China, and outlines the key directions for the next phase. The report states that “AI+” energy has become a major strategic direction for countries around the world to seize the initiative in future development. The rapid development of artificial intelligence is driving a continuous increase in the electricity demand for global computing infrastructure. According to the International Energy Agency’s projections, global data center electricity consumption will nearly double by 2030 compared to 2025. The report states that in terms of the green and low-carbon transformation of computing infrastructure as well as the integration of computing power and electricity use, by 2025 China had built 42 smart computing clusters with tens of thousands of GPUs, and the total electricity consumption of computing centers across the country reached 170 billion kWh. In the eight hub nodes of the national integrated computing power network, computing power and energy consumption have become the main drivers of growth. Over the past three years, the average growth rate has been approximately 39.5%, significantly higher than the average growth rate of total electricity consumption across society. Among them, the average annual growth rates of electricity consumption at the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei hub and the Inner Mongolia hub over the past three years were 33.3% and 66.5% respectively, indicating an accelerated concentration of computing resources in key hubs and areas rich in energy resources. Meanwhile, the goal of ensuring that over 80% of the electricity used in the new data centers at these computing hub nodes comes from renewable sources is being accelerated toward achievement through various methods such as green energy trading, direct connection to renewable energy sources, cross-provincial and cross-regional trading, and the integration of power generation, transmission, consumption, and storage. In terms of the development of industry-specific large models, China’s energy sector has already implemented dozens of such models tailored for various energy sectors, including power grids, new energy sources, hydropower, thermal power, nuclear power, coal, and oil and gas. “The powerful combination of artificial intelligence and energy, with a mutually reinforcing relationship between the two, will generate an exponential effect, creating unprecedented and immeasurable prospects for development. ”**Wang Hongzhi, Secretary of the Party Leadership Group and Director of the Energy Bureau, said that it is now the right time, with the necessary conditions in place, to promote the two-way integration of artificial intelligence and the energy sector.
