Which one is better for current steam flow meters: vortex street type or orifice plate type? Which one has better quality?
Vortex flow meters have a larger range ratio and should also offer better accuracy, but they are not suitable for applications with high levels of vibration.
The steam supply companies here use Spiraax steam flowmeters as the primary type of flowmeter for supplying steam to various enterprises.
Vortex flowmeters have a larger range compared to orifice plates, are more convenient to use, but their accuracy is slightly lower than that of orifice plates with precise calculations. Under normal circumstances, a vortex flow meter is sufficient; with temperature and pressure compensation, it can be used without any problems even in harsh field conditions. The price is much lower compared to that of integrated orifice plate flowmeters. In terms of production, it’s more or less the same everywhere; the technology is quite mature.
