In the distillation system of our plant, a corrosion inhibitor is injected at the top of the stripping tower; this inhibitor is prepared by mixing deionized water with pure corrosion inhibitor. Both the deionized water and the pure corrosion inhibitor are added continuously, in a certain ratio, while maintaining a specific liquid level. I have the impression that the mixture of the corrosion inhibitor and deionized water isn’t optimal, and there is no agitator in the tank used to prepare this mixture. I would like to ask how others in their plants handle corrosion inhibitors – are there any good methods I could use as a reference?
In our case, the two components are mixed in proportion and then added to the tank; after mixing, they are injected in, with a typical dosage of 35 ppm
Is there no mixer installed on the corrosion inhibitor tank? Even if it is poured into the tank after dilution, complete dilution throughout the tank cannot be achieved, resulting in uneven mixing; it is recommended to add a stirrer!
We also prepare it according to the specified ratios and demineralized water proportions, and then add more when the liquid level in the tank is low; generally, it’s 15-20 g/t
Add a slow-release agent and then deionized water; this mixture should be fine. We always add it in this way, at around 20 ppm, and the iron ion level is within acceptable limits

If unevenness is a concern, a nitrogen line can be added, but flanges are required to prevent asphyxiation by nitrogen during maintenance. Avoid wind to reduce oxidation.

Our facility has two types of corrosion inhibitors; the one used in the diesel hydrogenation unit is water-soluble, and it is directly injected into the top of the tower after being mixed with deionized water; For the post-upstream gasoline hydrogenation, oil-soluble corrosion inhibitors are used, which are diluted with oil and then injected directly. Since there is no stirring, it should be sufficient to meet the dissolution requirements!
