Severe flooding can cause the tower to be overwhelmed; previously, this was manifested by a rapid drop in the liquid level at the bottom of the tower, along with a rapid decrease in the pressure at the top of the tower. Fog mist carries both heaviness and tenderness; if it’s too light, its presence goes unnoticed, but if it’s too heavy, it causes liquid to overflow and flood the tower. Leaking? It’s that when the load is low, there is always a prediction, and substandard quality serves as the criterion for that.
In distillation column operation, an excessive gas phase load can lead to foam entrainment, while an excessive liquid phase load can cause the downcomer to become overloaded. When both the gas phase load and the liquid phase load are too high, flooding occurs. When flooding occurs, the temperatures of the adjacent plates at the bottom gradually approach each other, and even the temperature of the upper plate may become higher than that of the lower plate. The ultimate consequence of foam entrainment is flooding or tower submersion. Leakage occurs when the load is too low and the backflow is too small, preventing mass and heat transfer.
