Are the catalysts different from the products? Which ones specifically?
This requires comparing the process packages; it’s not just the products and catalysts that matter – a range of operational parameters and other factors may also differ. Nevertheless, all hydrogenation processes are more or less similar in structure

Different raw materials require different catalysts; although the process route and products may be the same, the yield will definitely vary. The production cycle is also different. Raffinate oil is divided into Grade 2 and Grade 3; residue oil consists of components that are even heavier than those in Grade 3, with much higher levels of sulfur, nitrogen, and metals compared to Grade 2. In the continuous process used at the Fuyan Research Institute, the sophisticated catalysts that use residue oil as a raw material must have a very high capacity to absorb impurities, with a production cycle of around one year. Wax oil hydrocracking using second-tier feedstocks requires fewer stringent requirements for catalysts due to the good properties of these feedstocks, and its production cycle is much longer, potentially reaching up to 5 years.
