Planned new project: 12,000 NM3/h of coke oven gas is to be used for PSA hydrogen production; the hydrogenation unit on the downstream side will require approximately 2,000 NM3 of hydrogen. Since not all of the hydrogen will be used, the question is: what are the possible ways to make use of the excess coke oven gas in other applications? What are the good approaches and ideas from an economic and feasibility perspective? For example, co-producing LNG or producing synthetic ammonia – we welcome all experts to share their thoughts and provide guidance or suggestions. It is more cost-effective to use hydrogenated coke oven gas for LNG production or combined heat and power generation projects
The total volume is only 12,000 cubic meters; PSA purification yields 2,000 cubic meters of hydrogen for internal use, leaving 10,000 cubic meters. What’s the use of such a small amount? Whether it’s for LNG or synthetic ammonia, the investment required is large, so it’s not cost-effective. Just use the small gas engine to burn fuel and generate electricity.
Power generation, either for direct use as fuel gas or to supply heat to heating boilers; The quantity is too small, which is not economical at all.
With this in mind, greater efforts are also being made to secure an adequate supply of gas.
With electricity prices so high, it’s still a good deal
Coke oven gas can be used to produce high-purity hydrogen for internal use or for sale, and LNG can also be generated as a by-product; this seems to be a cost-effective approach. It also allows compliance with policies aimed at reducing carbon emissions and supporting the development of hydrogen energy, thereby enabling access to certain forms of local support. This is exactly what we do in the several projects in which we are currently involved
