Trial Operation of 500,000-Ton Coal Tar Hydrogenation Project in Inner Mongolia Author/Source: Huahua Network – Coal Chemical Industry Date: 2018-07-09 Clicks: 16 On July 5, the trial operation of the 500,000-ton per year coal tar hydrogenation project carried out by Wusitai Fine Chemicals Co., Ltd., part of Qinghua Group in Inner Mongolia, was successful, with qualified products being produced. This project utilizes Shengbang Technology’s tar hydrogenation process technology, the coal tar hydrogenation catalyst developed independently by Xinyou Energy, the latest grading and packing schemes, as well as the sulfuric acid production process package manufactured by Top. The overall project includes a 500,000 tons per year coal tar hydrogenation unit, an acidic water stripping unit, and a sulfuric acid plant, generating a wide range of by-products from coal chemical processing. Using medium- and low-temperature coal tar produced by the coal chemical company and its surrounding areas as raw materials, along with hydrogen generated by the company’s hydrogen production facility, this project enables the production of 1# light coal tar and 2# light coal tar (with sulfur and nitrogen contents both below 10 ppm) through two stages of hydrogenation reactions; liquefied gas, ammonia water, and sulfuric acid are produced as by-products. In 2011, Inner Mongolia Qinghua Group built a production line for a coal tar hydrogenation project with an annual output of 160,000 tons, which achieved good economic results. In 2014, the group invested again to build a 500,000 tons per year coal tar slurry bed hydrogenation plant along with related facilities, which were largely completed in July of that year. However, due to a lack of startup funds, production was delayed for a long time. To facilitate the commissioning and operation of Inner Mongolia Qinghua Group’s 500,000 tons per year coal tar slurry bed hydrogenation project and its associated facilities, and with the coordination of the Alxa Economic Development Zone, a fund partnership agreement was ultimately signed with Beijing Jiafucheng Asset Management Co., Ltd. and Everbright Financial Leasing Co., Ltd. A special investment fund for the development of key industries was established, providing strong support for the resumption of work on this 500,000 tons per year coal tar slurry bed hydrogenation project and its related facilities.

Does Shengbang have suspended bed technology? Can high, medium, and low coal tar all be used? Can Xinyou produce iron-based catalysts for suspension beds?
Can I add you on QQ for technical discussions? (1034375258)
We are also building a facility for the hydrogenation of coal tar at Shengbang. The unit responsible for the hydrogenation of mineral oils (used engine oil) at Xinyou has already started pilot production; unfortunately, the people in charge do not understand the key aspects of this process.
The 500,000 tons/year fixed-bed coal tar hydrogenation process is Shengbang’s technology; the suspended-bed process package was developed by the Institute of Liquids, Chinese Academy of Sciences, with design work carried out by Luoyang Institute
It provided strong support for the restart of the 500,000 tons/year coal tar slurry bed hydrogenation project and its associated facilities: victory::victory::victory: Giving momentum to the place where battles were once fought
