Why is steam purging needed? Steam purging will cause the catalyst to absorb a large amount of water, reducing its strength; it is best to avoid such purging. Once hot hydrogen carries away the oil, there will be no oil left in the catalyst.
What is the purpose of using steam purging? Passivating ferrous sulfide? It’s fine to blow away the waste catalyst with steam; just ensure the system is dry before loading the new catalyst. As for catalysts that need to be regenerated, it’s better not to use them, as water can cause the catalyst to break apart
