How is carbon monoxide generated inside oil and wastewater wells (water-sealed wells)?
Under anaerobic conditions in ordinary sewage wells, carbon monoxide is not formed; can the original poster confirm that carbon monoxide is indeed present? If carbon monoxide is indeed present, it can be said with certainty that it has seeped into the sewage well or sewage pipes from somewhere else. Unless the wastewater here is produced by a highly specialized process, I really can’t think of any process that could generate carbon monoxide under normal-pressure anaerobic conditions.
