Hydrocracking emergency pressure relief orifice plate or PV valve?

Has anyone used a PV valve to replace an orifice plate as an emergency pressure relief mechanism? How is it working? Is it reliable? Can it be widely promoted?
We have used it; it is a 200,000-ton lubricant hydrogenation unit, and the opening degree of the valves can be adjusted according to the amount of material being unloaded.
