Heroes! Has anyone encountered the phenomenon of salt deposition in the recycle hydrogen desulfurization tower of a hydrogenation unit? In my case, the recycle hydrogen after treatment contained liquid, and the hydrogen sulfide content increased significantly. After adding water to the amine solution for 6 hours, the hydrogen sulfide content returned to normal levels, indicating that there was indeed salt deposition on the trays. Share below.
Has there been any analysis of the acidic water with high and low pH levels? Is it because the amount of gas injected at higher pH levels is smaller, and the temperature of the recycled hydrogen before it enters the desulfurization unit is too high?
Foaming in the amine solution is related to both its concentration and the level of impurities.

Personally, I think the possibility of salt formation is low; the desulfurization effect is not good, and it might be caused by liquid in the circulating hydrogen. The issue of liquid in the circulating hydrogen should be addressed first. There are several possible reasons for liquid presence: 1. The temperature of the circulating hydrogen and the lean liquid is too high. 2. The circulating hydrogen carrying oil causes the lean liquid to emulsify. 3. Foaming in the desulfurization tower. What is said is not entirely comprehensive; it’s just a personal opinion.
We carry out monitoring in advance and add defoamers promptly, but high salt content is an unavoidable problem – after all, it’s an old system.
