Solvay’s trifluoroacetic acid plant in Germany announces suspension of production

On September 18, Solvay issued a statement saying it would adjust certain product lines at its plant in Bad Wimpfen, Germany. This adjustment will result in the loss of jobs for about 100 people at that factory. Solvay stated that this adjustment is aimed at supporting the company’s transformation and ensuring the creation of long-term value in a challenging market. Specifically, the company will cease producing organic substances such as trifluoroacetic acid (TFA) and all its derivatives by early 2026, and will gradually stop producing certain inorganic substances including hydrogen fluoride by the end of 2026. However, the other product lines at the Battenheim plant will not be affected. Meanwhile, Solvay also announced that it would invest in turning the Battenheim plant into a global center for the production, research, and application of flux brazing technologies sold under the Nocolok brand. The new investment will be used to establish factories for Nocolok pastes and coatings, and to relocate the Nocolok technology center and production operations from Gabson in Germany to Bad Wimpfen. This move will result in a net reduction of around 40 jobs at the Gibson plant, which is scheduled to cease operations by 2028. Solvay added that the company plans to allocate around 25 million euros in 2026 primarily for the costs associated with this restructuring and for strategic investments.
