I have a project involving the production of glacial acetic acid using mixed acids, and I’m facing difficulties in material transportation. I would like to ask for advice on selecting the appropriate materials for this purpose. As we all know, glacial acetic acid turns into a solid when the temperature is below 16.8°, so heat tracing needs to be taken into consideration. Generally, choosing 316 material is sufficient to meet the requirements. Well, I have a problem here: it’s because it’s recycled mixed acid. There will be iodine gas (iodide ions) inside, and no metal can withstand the erosion caused by iodine gas; of course, metals like gold don’t even come into consideration. So metal materials are ruled out. Considering the use of PTFE-lined pipes, but such pipes have issues with heating. Finally, glass-lined piping with jackets was considered; this option can meet the requirements, but it is costly, has too many flanges, and is prone to leakage during use. I just wanted to ask the seniors if there are any other solutions; I’d be extremely grateful. Another point is that for the storage tanks at present, glass-lined tanks are being considered; would tanks made of other materials be more suitable?
