Are there any industry standards or guidelines regarding the switching of pumps and the schedule for changing lubricant during normal operation? What do your respective organizations do?
Mechanical pumps generally require their oil to be changed once a month. There is usually no monitoring of the lubricating oil in such pumps; it is sufficient to check that the oil level and color are normal. The lubricating oil in the unit’s oil stations is analyzed on a monthly basis
The pump switch-over is done at most once a week. The oil change interval is determined based on experience: it is about 1 month for new equipment, and then every six months thereafter. Large equipment requires testing; if the acid value is ≥1, the oil must be replaced
