Companies adopt 5S in order to improve quality, boost productivity, reduce costs, ensure on-time delivery, as well as guarantee safe production and maintain and enhance employees’ high morale. What are the benefits of implementing 5S management in a company? I. Some common negative phenomena in companies 1) Employees have poor appearance, are careless and disobedient, work sloppily, lack an awareness of quality in their work, have no overall perspective, and fail to fulfill their duties properly. II. Hazards caused by negative phenomena 1) Laziness among employees damages the company’s image, affects morale, eliminates a sense of teamwork, creates a poor working atmosphere, and leads to an improper work attitude. 2) Random placement of items leads to clutter, making management difficult; searching takes time, increasing handling time, resulting in more unnecessary tasks, and the data becomes unclear. 3) Using and maintaining the machine without following the operating procedures can easily damage the equipment, affecting its lifespan and accuracy as well as the quality of the products. 4) Such adverse phenomena not only affect quality but, more importantly, increase safety risks. III. Negative phenomena lead to waste: waste of funds, waste of space, waste of materials, and waste of manpower. Any work that does not generate value is considered waste. IV. Improving management means addressing these negative phenomena on the job site. Carrying out 5S activities can effectively improve the aforementioned problems and reduce waste. 1) Create a clean, tidy, and organized workplace and spatial environment to ensure safe and pleasant working conditions. Thus, morale is improved and work efficiency is enhanced. 2) Through 5S activities, good habits are gradually cultivated to improve employees’ quality, eliminate carelessness, ensure that every task and every matter is taken seriously, and foster a positive corporate culture. 3) Implementing 5S activities can effectively improve undesirable conditions and minimize resource waste. Here is a set of data: in November 2001, the Tokyo Economic Council conducted a survey and analysis of all companies in the Tokyo area that had successfully implemented 5S practices. The findings showed that the workload of employees decreased by an average of 35%, the intensity of their work was reduced by an average of 61%, machine failures decreased by an average of 86%, and efficiency improved by an average of 17%.
