For storage, trading, and manufacturing facilities, spherical tanks generally use pipes at the bottom of the tank for feeding and discharging materials; SH3136 also requires this approach in order to reduce the number of openings in the spherical tank; However, for spherical tanks used in process units, especially intermediate tanks, if the production requirements dictate that a single storage tank must allow for simultaneous inlet and outlet operations, an inlet at the top and an outlet at the bottom can be employed. However, several issues have arisen during the design of a project: 1. For ethylene to enter the spherical tank at -32°C, top feeding is required. But I’ve heard that it isn’t necessary to insert an extension tube 200 mm deep into the bottom of the tank for ethylene. I would like to ask those with experience whether this is indeed the case? (Different from the requirements of SH3136) 2. If the extending tube is led to a position 200 mm below the bottom of the tank, is there any requirement for providing small holes in this extending tube? 3. A certain enterprise uses top feeding for its spherical tank; during the design and construction phase, no internal extension pipe was installed in the tank. The enterprise is now in operation, and it has been stated that foreign spherical tanks also use top feeding without such an internal extension pipe.
