Let me share what I’ve experienced: in one team, one person monitored the production equipment while the others took naps; they were woken up by that person in the morning. In other cases, a few people slept while the rest kept an eye on the equipment. Yet in some teams, members took turns sleeping to ensure that everyone got some rest during the night shift. There were also teams where no one slept at all. Logically speaking, sleeping isn’t allowed during night shifts in chemical companies, but it’s really hard to stay awake at night, right? Those of you who work on the front line or have worked in production teams – how do you get through night shifts? Have you ever slept during a night shift? It is quite common for frontline production teams to sleep during night shifts; generally, companies are very strict in punishing such behavior. Some companies deduct wages and performance bonuses in such cases, while others issue a verbal warning on the first occasion but still go ahead to deduct wages.
Indeed, there are many cases of accidents occurring while sleeping during night shifts. Consider changing between shift patterns and day shifts from time to time.
One shouldn’t sleep when on night shift. Since there are night shifts, companies generally provide time for rest during the day. If personal matters are dealt with during the day and this affects rest, it will inevitably impact one’s energy levels for the night shift. If one sleeps during the night shift, it is similar to slacking off at work; in hazardous chemical companies, this can affect safety in production and increase the risk of accidents.
There is no need to discuss this; today’s companies are quite organized and strive to maximize profits, especially when it comes to staffing, where personnel allocation is carried out with great precision. Under such circumstances, sleeping on duty is, mildly put, a violation of labor discipline; more seriously, it constitutes a crime – dereliction of duty. It’s like driving under the influence; it’s fine as long as no accident occurs and you’re not caught, but if an accident happens, it’s a crime. Uncompromising!

But what about small and medium-sized enterprises? What is their staffing situation like? In order to save on labor costs, they invest very little in manpower. In fact, other solutions can be considered, such as adjusting the frequency of night shifts.

But some colleagues are actually sleeping; it’s scary to think about.
Indeed, it’s common to sleep during night shifts, but usually it’s just a short nap.
