I am working on a project and have encountered a problem: the outer edge of the newly constructed Class B factory is only 9 meters away from the outer edge of an existing Class E factory. This distance does not meet the requirement of 10 meters specified in Table 3.4.1 of the building fire protection codes for the distance between Class B and Class E factories. According to the notes in Table 3.4.1, the exterior wall of the new Class B factory should be a fire wall. Additionally, per Article 6.1.5 of the building fire protection codes, it is possible to install non-removable windows as well as Class A fire-resistant doors and windows with automatic closing functions on this fire wall. However, I have never done this before, so I am not sure whether it is feasible.
The building height is not mentioned, making it difficult to determine the fire separation distance. 1. If the higher side is a firewall, there is no limit on the fire separation distance. 2. If at the same elevation, with fire resistance ratings of Class 1 or 2, and the fire resistance limit of either firewall or roof is greater than 1 hour, there is no limit on the fire separation distance. 3. For categories 2, 1, and 2, the firewall should be of low grade; if there are no skylights on the roof, the fire resistance rating must be greater than 1 hour. In cases where there are high openings, these should be equipped with Class A doors, windows, or rolling water screens. The distance between categories A and B should be 6 meters, while the distance between categories C, D, and E should be 4 meters. For categories B and E, a distance of 6 meters should be maintained as a stricter requirement.
