Everyone, I was wondering if anyone knows what the regulations are regarding fire protection for steel structures – specifically, what requirements exist regarding the thickness and application range of fire-resistant coatings – in the case of pump stations used for transporting Class A and B liquids, which are located beneath steel structure ductwork? Thank you!
Choose the higher standard, not the lower one; follow Class A standards!
If possible, it is recommended not to place it under the conduit tunnel. Petroleum standard 5.3.2: Pumps for liquefied hydrocarbons and flammable liquids with an operating temperature equal to or above their auto-ignition point should not be located beneath pipe racks. ”
5.6.2 The following parts of the load-bearing steel structures mentioned in clause 5.6.1 of this standard shall be covered with a fire-resistant layer; the fire resistance rating of the steel components covered by such a layer shall not be less than 2 hours. 1. Steel framework of supporting equipment: 1) Beams and columns of single-layer frameworks ; 2) When the floor slabs of a multi-story structure are open steel grating floors, the beams and columns within 10 meters above the ground level ; 3) When the floor slab of a multi-story structure is a closed-type slab, the beams and columns in the area from the ground level up to the surface of that floor slab and within an additional 10 meters above it ; 4) All beams, columns, and load-bearing bracings of the frame equipped with an air cooler at the upper part. 2. Steel support frames for supporting equipment ; 3. The uninsulated portion on the outside of the steel skirt base and the inside of the skirt base with a diameter greater than 1.2 m ; 4. Steel pipe frame: 1) Beams and columns supporting the pipes on the bottom layer ; When the base is below 4.5 m, the beams and columns of the support pipes within 4.5 m above the ground surface ; 2) The pipe rack equipped with an air cooler at the upper part, including all its beams, columns, and load-bearing bracing members ; 3) Pipe racks equipped with liquefied hydrocarbon or flammable liquid pumps at the lower section, as well as beams and columns within 10 m above the ground level ; 5. From the ground to 0.2 m below the point where the leg intersects the sphere of the liquefied hydrocarbon tank.
