As the title suggests, two safety valves are installed on one device (with the intention of having one in use and one as a backup). The setting for the opening pressure of these safety valves is exactly the same; how then can their use be controlled?
Having one safety valve in operation and another as a backup seems like overkill to me.
Is it to ensure reliability that the same device is equipped with two safety valves? Previously, on one pipeline there were three safety valves as well, only their burst pressures were different. Why not arrange for them to operate simultaneously, and simply set the setting pressures in a stepped manner?
For equipment that operates over long periods of time, it is not possible to ensure that the safety valves are shut down for inspection every year; therefore, using two safety valves with one as a backup is also a viable option
