On November 9, the test of generating electricity by mixing biomass fuel with traditional fuel in Boiler No. 4 of the Thermal Power Department at Jinxi Petrochemical was a complete success. During the test, both the operational parameters and emission indicators remained within normal ranges, fully verifying the feasibility of biomass co-firing in thermal power circulating fluidized bed boilers. It is estimated that once this project is put into operation, it will enable a reduction of about 21,900 tons in the use of standard coal per year, as well as a reduction of about 56,900 tons in carbon dioxide emissions; thus, it offers significant environmental and economic benefits. As an emerging clean energy source, biomass fuel boasts advantages such as complete combustion, high calorific value, low carbon emissions, and ease of storage and transportation. Using biomass fuel in power generation is a key measure taken by Jinxi Petrochemical during the final phase of the 14th Five-Year Plan to implement concepts of green energy use, energy conservation, and carbon reduction. It is also an important approach for the company to meet the requirements for reducing carbon emissions in coal-fired power generation, reverse the situation of negative carbon quotas, and achieve sustainable development. “From the test of mixing fuels in Boiler No. 4, we summarized the differences in the impact of various fuel mix ratios on boiler operation, and identified the optimal mixing ratio to maximize economic benefits. ”Chen Yongjie, the person in charge of production technology at the Thermoelectric Department, explained. During this co-firing test, the staff conducted a comprehensive evaluation of various environmental parameters such as boiler load, main steam temperature and pressure, furnace temperature, oxygen level, and slag discharge, in order to ensure the accuracy and reliability of the test data and provide solid technical support for future large-scale applications. During the co-firing period, Jinxī Petrochemical made full use of its existing facilities by storing biomass pellets in external coal storage sheds, emptying coal silos for the transfer of biomass pellets, and mixing them with coal in the appropriate proportions. At the same time, the existing coal transport system is used to deliver biomass pellets to the furnace, saving on renovation costs and reducing the project construction cost. Next, Jinxi Petrochemical will continue to accelerate the process of translating experimental results into practical applications, promote the use of biomass fuel in other boilers, thereby optimizing and upgrading the company’s energy consumption structure, reducing carbon emission levels, and contributing to the creation of a green, low-carbon, and sustainably developed industrial ecosystem.
