The liquefied gas deethanizer is narrower at the top and wider at the bottom – why is it designed this way?
It is mainly affected by the gas-liquid phase load!
In the feed composition, the light components are fewer than the heavy components, and the gas-liquid load at the top is lower than that at the bottom. If you can get access to the basic design documents of the tower, check the gas-liquid load per tray level and you’ll understand why.
As clearly explained by the two people upstairs, the gas phase volume in the upper part of the tower is much smaller than that in the lower part; therefore, it is necessary to reduce the diameter, otherwise liquid will leak from the pedals and the packing tower will not receive sufficient spraying.
