Recently, while studying the principles of chemical engineering, I suddenly wondered: if steam supply to a distillation tower is suddenly stopped, will the operating equations for the distillation section change? The steam supply was suddenly stopped; without a heat source, the product couldn’t be vaporized, but this doesn’t affect the product at the top of the tower. But it will affect the product at the bottom of the tower. In such cases, urgent action is required: reduce or even stop the backflow, with the main goal being to restore the heat source. Over time, feeding must be stopped, which may cause the entire system to come to a halt.
I set up equations for the distillation section using material balance, and found that the form of the operating equations remains unchanged. Could it be that, although this does not affect the quality of the product at the top of the tower, less product is produced there?
