As the title indicates, the evaporator at the bottom of the purification tower in our company’s distillation tower drawings is vertical and heated by steam. According to the drawings, steam enters at the top of the evaporator and exits at the bottom. But a colleague of mine who has worked with distillation said that it should be steam entering from below and exiting from above. I’m not familiar with the details of distillation, so I’m asking everyone: how should steam enter and exit?

Common heating media include steam and heat transfer oil. Steam provides heat through the latent heat of phase change; to ensure unobstructed flow, it flows in from above and out from below. Heat transfer oil flows in from below and out from above to prevent gases from remaining in the pipes, thereby increasing the heat exchange area; it also follows the principle of flowing in from the lower side and out from the upper side

Is it to prevent the vapor of the material being evaporated from condensing? The boiling point of the material being evaporated is below 70 degrees, while the temperature of the hot water used is 90 degrees
Some evaporators that use hot water for heating are designed to control the temperature by regulating the heating area based on the level of hot water, and therefore they are structured with water inlet at the top and outlet at the bottom
