Installation location of the tower’s thermocouples

1. What determines the location at which the thermocouples are installed in a normal tower? 2. Is there any difference between the gas phase temperature and the liquid phase temperature measured by the thermocouple on the tower during temperature measurement? The thermocouple in the attached figure is inserted into the downcomer of the tower. I ask the experts for their guidance!

Where’s the picture? The installation location of the thermocouple should be related to the type of tower! Some are installed on the inlet and outlet pipelines of the tower, while others are installed on the tower itself; it’s mainly due to process and safety requirements I guess
