The tray is equipped with guide float valves, which have one or two guide holes; the opening direction of these guide holes is aligned with the flow direction of the liquid on the tray. During operation, a small amount of vapor ejected from the guide holes drives the flow of liquid on the tray, thereby significantly reducing or even completely eliminating the liquid level gradient on the tray.
Due to the drawbacks of a mass transfer dead zone above the F1 floating valve and high tray pressure drops, experts from the former Soviet Union developed a type of circular floating valve tray. This type of circular floating valve has three valve legs on its lower side, which enable smooth rising and falling of the floating valve and also serve as a means for limiting its movement. When in operation, each annular floating valve can create two layers of bubbling on the inner and outer sides, which reduces the gas velocity in the gaps. As a result, the pressure drop across the tray is decreased, and the upper limit for the gas phase load increases. This floating valve features small valve holes in the valve cover, which make full use of the mass transfer space above the floating valve to achieve a more fine and uniform dispersion of the gas, thereby enhancing gas-liquid contact. Differential floating valves with guiding functions are used in certain areas to eliminate liquid retention on the tray, improving the uniformity of gas-liquid distribution
