Recently, I encountered a challenge while simulating an MDEA regeneration tower: the feed rate was 420 t/h, the temperature was 98 degrees, the mass fraction of MDEA was approximately 38.4%, the water content was 57.3%, and the H2S content was 4.3%; Simulations were carried out using Aspen and HYSYS. The operating pressure of the tower is 180 kPa at the top and 210 kPa at the bottom; the number of tray levels is 23. Feed is introduced at the second tray level, with a reflux temperature of 50°C. The separation efficiency required is such that the mass fraction of H2S is less than 0.1%. The corresponding energy consumption is 45 MW, with a steam demand of 78 t/h. It seems that there is a significant discrepancy between the simulation results and the energy consumption values indicated in some reference materials. Is the feed location for the second layer of trays too high? Use sensitivity analysis to determine which tray is the most suitable for feeding
In general, the actual feed position for the MDEA regeneration tower is at the third tray; correspondingly, this corresponds to the second or third theoretical tray. The most important aspect is the simulation of this process – I use the case environments provided by Aspen or HYSYS for modeling, but I don’t get the desired results
What are your expectations? The energy consumption I calculated is around 30MW
