Phases I, II, and III of this project have a total installed capacity of 580 MW, cover an area of 2,000 hectares, and cost $2.7 billion; it includes 510 MW of concentrated solar power capacity and 70 MW of photovoltaic capacity.
As the world’s largest tower-type molten salt power plant, Northwest Electric Power Design Institute Co., Ltd. served as the design agency for the entire Nuo 3 project. In accordance with the overall division of tasks, the institute was responsible for the design of the power generation units, the BOP systems, as well as the civil engineering aspects of the entire plant.
The Noor Phase 3 project utilizes tower-type solar power generation technology, with molten salt used for heat storage. Its power generation capacity is 150 MW, and it features 7,400 heliostats of the HE54 type. Each of these heliostats consists of 54 mirror modules, giving each one an area of 178 square meters; they are thus the largest heliostats currently in commercial use. The heat storage capacity is 2770 MWt, sufficient to provide the heat required for the turbine units to operate at full load for 7 hours, while the capacity of the turbine generator is 150 MW.

The Qinghai Zhongkong Delingha tower-type solar thermal power generation project has an installed capacity of 10 MW for its first phase, which came online in 2013; the second phase with a capacity of 50 MW is under construction and is scheduled to come online in 2019； The China Electric Engineering Corporation’s 50MW solar thermal power project using molten salt towers in Hami is under construction and is scheduled to come online in 2019.
