The booster is installed primarily to overcome the limitation imposed by the saturated vapor pressure of water on the vacuum level at the top of the tower; it functions as a vacuum pump as well. Usually, there is no cooling water before the oil and gas enter the booster, and there is also no atmospheric leg connected to the degasifier tank in front of the booster. The main function of the booster is to increase the pressure of the oil and gas at the top of the tower, so that the pressure at the outlet of the booster is higher than the saturated vapor pressure of water, thereby achieving a higher degree of vacuum.
