In the design, there is an acidic water stripping tower; the diameter of the upper section of this tower’s cylinder is 600, and this section of the cylinder is equipped with two sections of packing. Considering equipment maintenance and filler replacement, a DN600 cylinder is connected to the container flange. According to the medium classification for hydrogen sulfide in HG20660-2017, hydrogen sulfide is considered a highly hazardous medium. The cylinder is connected using flanges, but there is a risk of leakage. Has anyone encountered the issue of designing a DN600 small-diameter tower for highly hazardous media? How is it designed? Should it be welded or connected with flanges? I’d like to hear everyone’s opinions!
The classification of toxicity levels according to the fixed capacity regulations refers to HG20660-2000 rather than the 17th edition; therefore, hydrogen sulfide is considered to have moderate hazard. But it’s still a flange connection; otherwise, the equipment simply cannot be manufactured.
Whether to use flange connections or direct welding is not decided arbitrarily! Increase the kilogram rating of the flange and the shell thickness! What project is this from?
For this, not only safety but also usability must be taken into account. There are basically three basic requirements for pressure vessels: first, they must meet the operational requirements; second, they need to be safe and reliable; third, they should be cost-effective. If it cannot ensure safety for use, it’s meaningless.
