This is not a design issue; the sulfuric acid plant has been in operation for 4 years without such problems, and they only appeared in the last half year.
It’s due to the use of a packed tower in the design, resulting from inadequate consideration in the design process. Generally, this flue gas contains particulates and acid-insoluble substances; the use of a packed tower results in high resistance, and this phenomenon is inevitable. For this type of tower, a packed-free tower should be chosen, as it has low resistance, is energy-efficient, and will not present any problems at any point during its operation. This is also why similar devices such as power waves are used abroad.
Could it be blockage caused by materials entrained in the raw materials?
Monomer sulfur clogging? It happened to me a few years ago.
The blockage is primarily due to a high probability of sulfur sublimation; additionally, after the expansion of the smelting system, the efficiency of the primary scrubber decreases, which leads to adhesive blockage of the packing in the gas cooling tower. I’ve encountered it – filler cleaning or replacement
Was the problem solved after replacing the filler? Also, what is the fundamental problem? If it’s just a blockage caused by the packing, that’s easy to fix by replacing the packing. But if that’s not the issue, and if the problems before the purification stage haven’t been resolved, then after operating for some time, the purification packing tower will still get blocked, right?
