For a project I’m working on now, the reboiler at the bottom of the tower needs to be placed on a platform at 12 meters height, while the tower itself is 35 meters tall. If the gas phase from the reboiler cannot be directed downward, the tower will have to be built at a very high height. It would be good if the gas pipeline could bend downward
Under normal circumstances, it is usually the case that towers need to be installed at a certain height for specific reasons (such as the requirement for a minimum net positive suction head at the tower bottom), which leads to the reboilers also having to be installed at a higher level; The most common operating principle for reboilers is thermosiphon-self-circulation; if it is desired that the gas phase pipeline be below the liquid phase pipeline, a forced-circulation reboiler can be designed
It can be changed to a forced circulation system combined with a falling film reboiler, but this increases operating costs; it is better to add a few meters to the skirt height instead.
If the reboiler at the bottom of the tower is of the thermosyphon type, its relative position to the tower is determined by the piping layout as well as the pressure drop within the reboiler itself. It cannot be changed arbitrarily.
Changing the reboiler inlet pipe breaks the siphon effect, and a pump is needed to force circulation
