At RT, there are around 40 hydrogen sulfide, flammable gas, and CO alarms installed near the cooling tower for circulating water. Given the actual circumstances, it seems like an excessive number of alarms have been installed; I wonder if anyone else has set up alarms in such a manner

The circulating water you mention might not be just water after all.
Well, not to mention the large number of installations; The key question is: can this location serve as a means for detection and early warning? Why can’t a relatively enclosed overflow tank be installed at the point where the circulating water main enters the water tower, and then installed according to the requirements? ; At least ensure that the test data can serve as a warning mechanism!

It’s too luxurious; I’ve never seen anything set up like this even inside Class A process installations. Is it a concern that the heat exchanger might leak, allowing flammable and toxic gases to enter the circulating water system? An online analysis alarm can be installed on the return pipeline of the circulating water. Gas detection alarms need to be set up, but there won’t be that many of them.
Anyway, I was shocked the first time I saw it. I also thought that there wouldn’t be such an excessive number of alarms around the storage tanks in the tank area. What I can explain is the concern that heat exchangers might leak and cause materials to enter the circulating water, but that’s not how it works either; in total, there are 6 units, resulting in nearly 300 alarms. . .

Working here feels extremely safe; maybe the safety measures are over-the-top. Tests are conducted around the cooling tower, in an open area, and by the time a detection is made, it’s probably too late to do anything about it
